Concerns were raised with Child, Youth and Family (CYF) regarding Sonya’s history of abusive and unfit parenting. However, the investigation was compromised from the start. CYF alerted Sonya to their upcoming house visit, providing her with the perfect window to scrub away the evidence of neglect.
Before the social workers arrived, the house underwent a frantic transformation: cat urine was cleaned from the carpets, months of piled-up dishes were finally washed, and the stench of a neglected pet rat cage was masked. Drug paraphernalia was hidden, and the lingering scent of marijuana and synthetic cannabis was aired out of the spare room.
When the officials finally walked through the door, Sonya delivered a masterclass in manipulation. Playing the victim, she used tears and stories of “horrible” children to gain sympathy. She leaned heavily on a self-reported battle with Sarcoidosis—a disease she claims is fatal and has already cost her a lung. Yet, her only “proof” is a small chest scar; a quick google search reveals that actual lung removal surgery (thoracotomy) typically requires a large incision stretching across the back.
Despite these inconsistencies and her ongoing drug use in the home, the staged visit was a success in the eyes of the law. CYF concluded that there were no concerns with her parenting. As a result, the cycle of abuse continues, leaving her youngest daughter trapped in the same toxic environment that her older siblings fought so hard to escape.
Update 2026: Sonya no longer has any children in her care
